Craig Moore’s late penalty earned Ladbrokes League One leaders Ayr a 3-2 victory at East Fife.
United had taken a fourth-minute lead through Alan Forrest but Chris Duggan scored in either half to turn the game around.
The Fifers held the lead until the 72nd minute when Steven Bell headed in an equaliser, but there was more drama to come as Craig Watson conceded a late penalty, which Moore converted.
Ayr’s lead remains at three points after second-placed Raith left it late to beat Albion 2-0.
Robert Barr broke the deadlock in the 86th minute and Dario Zanatta wrapped up a third straight win three minutes later.
Alloa moved above opponents Arbroath and into third after coming from two goals down win 3-2.
Michael McKenna and Ryan Wallace both scored in the space of two minutes to give Arbroath a 2-0 lead after 22 minutes but Callum Smith pulled one back in the 26th minute, then Jordan Kirkpatrick’s brace secured the hosts all three points.
Elsewhere, first-half goals from Scott Agnew and Ross Lyon earned Stranraer a 2-0 win against Forfar, while Queen’s Park and Airdrie finished 0-0.
