Shaun Pearson effort enough as Wrexham edge Maidstone

Shaun Pearson’s second-half header earned Wrexham a 1-0 victory over Maidstone to boost the Welsh side’s Vanarama National League automatic promotion hopes.
Wrexham’s Paul Rutherford should have done better after 11 minutes but when he fired straight at the goalkeeper and – just before the half-hour – Wrexham went close again as Scott Quigley’s header came back off the crossbar from a Rutherford cross.
Maidstone had to wait 53 minutes for their first real chance but Alex Wynter headed over when given space in the Wrexham area and the visitors should have taken the lead 10 minutes later as Blair Turgott blazed over the bar when he looked set to tap in.
Wrexham finally opened the scoring with 15 minutes to go as Pearson headed in from a free-kick to wrap up the three points.
