Kane Hemmings makes Notts County pay the penalty

Kane Hemmings’ dramatic penalty eight minutes into stoppage time saw Mansfield snatch a crucial 1-1 draw at League Two promotion rivals Notts County.
Lewis Alessandra handled the ball in the box and Hemmings stepped up to fire low to Adam Collin’s right, cancelling out Terry Hawkridge’s scrappy first-half opener and leaving the Stags just three points behind County in third.
The Magpies coped better with the snow in the first half as Liam Noble lobbed an effort over the bar after Conrad Logan had punched clear a high ball.
They took the lead after 35 minutes as first Hawkridge picked out the run of Jorge Grant to cross for the unmarked Shola Ameobi, who was denied by a fine save from Logan.
From the resulting corner, Carl Dickinson’s superb ball to the back post was headed against the bar by Ameobi but Hawkridge poked home from close range.
Mansfield significantly improved after the break and snatched a point at the death when Alex MacDonald headed into the area with the ball hitting Alessandra on the arm and Hemmings kept his cool from 12 yards.
