Ayr go top after holding Arbroath to a draw

Ayr moved top of the Ladbrokes League One table thanks to Craig McGuffie’s equaliser four minutes from time in their 1-1 draw at Arbroath.
Danny Denholm’s long-range strike on the stroke of half-time was Arbroath’s only shot on target in the first half and looked to be the difference between the two sides.
Ayr created the better chances before Denholm’s strike, with Jamie Adams and Michael Moffatt having their headers saved by David Hutton while Lawrence Shankland also had a shot saved.
Just as the home side were eyeing victory, McGuffie’s left-footed strike secured Ayr a point, moving them level on 58 points with Raith with a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
