Queen of the South triumph at struggling Dumbarton

Kevin Nisbet’s second-half penalty miss proved crucial as Queen of the South clinched a 1-0 victory at Dumbarton, who remain nine points adrift of safety in the Ladbrokes Championship.
The Sons had ended a four-match losing run in the league by securing a goalless draw at Falkirk last time out but the opportunity to claim another point was wasted when Nisbet blazed his spot-kick over the bar midway through the second half.
A goalless first half was followed by the visitors breaking the deadlock three minutes into the resumption when Dominic Thomas’ free-kick from just outside the area crept past Dumbarton goalkeeper Scott Gallacher.
Dumbarton were given a route back into the match in the 67th minute when Stephen Dobbie was penalised for handling in the area.
But Nisbet was badly off-target with his effort as Queen of the South held on to move up to fifth in the table.
