Ross Stewart hat-trick guides Alloa to victory

Ross Stewart’s first-half hat-trick helped Alloa to a 5-3 win over Arbroath as they moved level on points with their opponents in the Ladbrokes League One play-off places.
Fans and groundstaff worked beforehand to clear several inches of snow from the pitch and allow the game to go ahead, and they were quickly rewarded when Leighton McIntosh handled in the box and Garry Fleming scored the resulting penalty.
Stewart made it 3-0 inside a remarkable first quarter-hour and though Michael McKenna pulled one back, a defensive error gifted Stewart his third and Alloa’s fourth four minutes before half-time.
The visitors made a double change at half-time and Bobby Linn cut the deficit 10 minutes later, but Iain Flannigan snuffed out any hope of a comeback despite Danny Denholm’s late third for Arbroath.
