Buddies squeeze past Brechin to extend league lead

Runaway Ladbrokes Championship leaders St Mirren eked out a 1-0 victory against basement boys Brechin to extend their advantage to 11 points.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Kyle Magennis’ free-kick landed in the back of the net after hitting Brechin goalkeeper Patrick O’Neil.
St Mirren had the chance to double their lead six minutes later when they were awarded a penalty but O’Neil produced a brilliant save to deny Ian McShane from 12 yards.
The home side continued to dominate as the first half wore on but they could not make their chances count and led by a single goal at the break.
Brechin came agonisingly close to finding an equaliser seven minutes after the interval when Liam Watt’s curling effort clattered a post, while Dylan Mackin also went close for the visitors late on.
