Groningen hit back to earn point

VVV-Venlo were held to a 1-1 Eredivisie draw against FC Groningen at De Koel on Friday night.
Winger Vito van Crooij handed the hosts an early lead as he fired Lennart Thy’s assist into the bottom corner just two minutes in.
But their narrow advantage did not last long as on-loan Groningen midfielder Ritsu Doan equalised 13 minutes later to end his club’s three-match goal drought and bring them level.
Johnatan Opoku threatened the visiting goal just before the break, while Mimoun Mahi had an effort blocked and Samir Memisevic’s header was kept out as the away side looked for a winner before the spoils were shared.
