Woking hang on for victory as Chester continue to struggle

Josh Staunton’s first senior goal helped 10-man Woking claim a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over struggling Chester in the National League.

After a low-key start, Reece Grego-Cox had a goal ruled out for offside for Woking, who then took the lead in the 23rd minute.

Anthony Cook’s corner hit Staunton and into the net for the defender’s first senior goal.

The home side then suffered a setback in the 58th minute when Matt Young was sent off for a late challenge of James Akintunde.

Ross Hannah clipped the bar for Chester minutes from time before Grego-Cox smashed against the woodwork deep into stoppage time on the counter-attack for Woking.
