Rochdale’s pitch looks worse than the trenches from WW2

Rochdale host Millwall at Spotland Stadium and it is the worst pitch we have ever seen

Rochdale should be looking for a new groundsman.

The Dale host Championship side Millwall at Spotland Park tonight in an FA Cup fourth round replay and the pitch looks more like a bull fighting ring than a football stadium.

Forget the lush green baizes of the Premier League, Spotland Park looks like a Sunday league turf crossed with your local donkey track.

Arsene Wenger would be livid

The League One side facing higher division opponents dreaming of a clash with Spurs in the fifth round, if Mauricio Pochettino can navigate Newport County at Wembley tomorrow.

Despite the state of the ground, with more brown to be seen than green, this tie has produced 15 goals in the last three meetings.

Are they hooves?

As the players come out of the tunnel they will tread across the snow that has been shovelled to the sidelines, then large muddy puddles before they make it onto the hallowed 'grass' which looks more like sand than anything.

To be fair it is only just the worst pitch we have seen this week after watching Barcelona draw at Espanyol's RCDE Stadium.

Lionel Messi proved he is a footballing Jesus and can walk on water as the match was played out under two inches of rain.

If either Rochdale or Millwall plan on playing it around they should think again as route one looks like the only option to win this one.

The magic of the cup...
