Rob Lainton stars as Port Vale hold Morecambe

Goalkeeper Rob Lainton was the hero for Port Vale as they battled to a 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Morecambe.
The 28-year-old made a number of quality saves to keep the hosts in the game during a first half dominated by the visitors, but neither team could break the deadlock.
The away side started brightly and it was Gregg Wylde who forced Lainton to produce a fine save on 14 minutes to keep out the winger’s thunderous strike from the left corner of the 18-yard box.
Morecambe nearly took the lead after 25 minutes when Vadaine Oliver nodded on to Garry Thompson, who beat the offside trap but prodded the ball into Lainton’s arms from close range.
The Vale keeper was called into action yet again on 34 minutes, pulling off a brilliant save to tip Wylde’s curling 20-yard effort onto the bar.
Both sides continued to push in the second half, but Vale came closest to grabbing the win 10 minutes from time when Tom Pope headed David Worrall’s cross agonisingly wide.
