Gateshead played out a goalless draw with high-flying Wrexham in their Vanarama National League clash at the Gateshead International Stadium.
The Welsh side started on the front foot and almost took the lead in the second minute when Shaun Pearson rattled the crossbar with a header before going close from the resulting corner with another headed effort.
Paul Rutherford and Akil Wright went close for Wrexham as they looked the more likely to open the scoring, but Danny Johnson and Jamal Fyfield reminded Dean Keates’ side that they were in a tight contest.
Wrexham striker Scott Boden tested home goalkeeper James Montgomery, while at the other end, Paddy McLaughlin could only muster a weak effort for the hosts before Chris Holroyd had the chance of the match but was denied by a superb save by Montgomery from close-range as Gateshead held on.
