Man City are keen to tie Raheem Sterling down
Sterling is close to agreeing a new and improved deal that will secure his long-term future with Pep Guardiola's men.
City have tied down Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho to new deals in recent weeks - now England international Sterling is set to follow suit.
Nothing has been finalised, but Starsport understands Etihad bosses have made it clear to Sterling he will be handed a new long-term deal.
Sterling, 23, still has two full seasons left on the current £180,000-a-week deal he signed when he joined City from Liverpool in a controversial £50m transfer in 2015.
He endured a tough first season at City but has since developed into a consistently high performer, with 18 goals to his name already this season.
Chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is keen to reward his progress and appreciates how much his game has improved under Guardiola.
It is understood Al-Mubarak will offer Sterling a basic £225,000-a-week deal that runs until 2023.
Al-Mubarak knows Sterling's impressive season has alerted the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain.
Sterling has flourished under Pep Guardiola this season
He is not prepared to risk losing Sterling, who is now expected to put pen to paper on his new deal in the coming weeks.
City will also move to lock striker Gabriel Jesus into a new long-term deal that also recognises his status as one of the most talented young forwards in world football.
Jesus, who joined City from Palmeiras for £27m 12 months ago, has a current deal of around £75,000-a-week that will be doubled under the terms of his new deal.
