Ayr turn on style to progress in William Hill Scottish Cup

Lawrence Shankland and Declan McDaid inspired Ayr to a 4-1 William Hill Scottish Cup win over Arbroath.
The hosts made the early breakthrough when winger Declan McDaid cut in from the wing and fired past David Hutton.
Gavin Swankie came close to an equaliser early in the second half with a shot against a post but Shankland’s luck was better at the other end, his effort bouncing in off the upright to double Ayr’s lead.
That prompted Arbroath boss Dick Campbell to use all three of his substitutes – but the visiting boss was soon sent to the stands after protesting when his side were denied a penalty.
One of the players he brought on, Ryan McCord, pulled a goal back but McDaid tapped in Ayr’s third after Shankland’s effort was saved and Shankland then set up a late fourth for Craig Moore.
