The Northern Irishman almost steered the Reds to their first Premier League title in decades, finishing runner-up during the 2013/14 season following a stunning campaign.
Since then, relations have clearly soured slightly, with Reds supporters often ridiculing the 44-year-old for his perceived arrogance.
And Rodgers riled the Anfield faithful once again this week after releasing a statement on Coutinho’s move to the Catalan giants.
"It's brilliant for both as he is a Barcelona player if ever there was one,” Rodgers told the Daily Record.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was slammed by Liverpool fans online
"At the time when I brought him, he wasn't in the team at Inter Milan. People questioned whether he was big enough and tall enough.
"I'd seen him as a young player at 18 at Inter Milan around top players and I always felt he had the technical quality.”
But Liverpool fans bit back on social media, with one writing: “WTF man? Do you need to weasel your way into the centre of attention every single time?”
Another wrote: “Love the fact Brendan Rodgers said ‘when I signed Philippe’ in his statement about the text message from Coutinho.

"By all accounts, didn't Brendan want Tom Ince over him and the Transfer Committee convinced him otherwise?”
Rodgers is currently with the Scottish Premier League leaders on a mid-season break in Dubai.
"It’s been great,” he told Celtic TV.
"The players have been working hard in their time here but of course, it’s nice for them socially to be together.
It’s been a really hard, tough season until the winter break but this gives us a chance to recharge and get some good coaching into the players.”
