Ayr maintained pole position in Ladbrokes League One with a 3-2 victory over Albion Rovers.
Craig Moore's 16th-minute effort gave the leaders the advantage but Sean Higgins equalised nine minutes later.
Lawrence Shankland (73) had the hosts ahead again and although Alan Trouten levelled in the 75th minute, Chris Higgins ended an exciting four minutes with Ayr's 77th-minute winner.
Raith stayed three points behind, with a game in hand, thanks to a 2-1 defeat of Alloa.
Greig Spence opened the scoring in the 55th minute and Liam Buchanan doubled the advantage 13 minutes later to maintain the Kirkcaldy side's 100 per cent record at Stark's Park, although Kevin Cawley replied two minutes from time.
Elsewhere, there were three impressive comebacks.
Two goals from Luke Donnelly enabled bottom club Queen's Park to win at home for the first time this season, as they came from behind to beat East Fife 2-1.
The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute through Chris Duggan but Donnelly's double (18 and 51) won it for Queen's Park.
Forfar had Eddie Malone sent off in the 17th minute of their match at Airdrie but they took the lead eight minutes into the second half through Dylan Easton.
However, that was as good as it got for the visitors as Willis Furtado (68) and Cameron Russell (79) turned things around and sealed a 2-1 home victory.
Ryan McCord gave Arbroath a 15th-minute advantage against Stranraer - but Kyle Turner levelled in the 53rd minute and Angus Beith's goal won it for the visitors 12 minutes from time.
