Struggling Morecambe hang on for win

Morecambe secured a vital three points with their first ever home win over Wycombe.

Two first-half goals gave the Shrimps the points but they had to endure a tough second half which saw Adebayo Akinfenwa pull one back before going close to an equaliser at the death.

Morecambe took the lead on 27 minutes with a fine header from defender Steven Old. Aaron Wildig drilled in a deep cross to the far post and Old drifted in unmarked to direct a header from 10 yards into the top left corner.

The home side doubled their advantage two minutes from the break with another well-worked goal. Garry Thompson's left-wing cross was only half-cleared to Wildig and he teed up Adam McGurk, who unleashed a low shot past keeper Scott Brown.

Akinfenwa pulled one back eight minutes from time when he headed home a Paris Cowan-Hall cross at the far post and he went close moments later with an effort from Nick Freeman's cross which flew inches past the post.

Morecambe keeper Barry Roche made two superb saves to deny Nick Freeman and the ever dangerous Akinfenwa as the home side were forced to battle for a much-needed win.
