Oldham leave it late to beat local rivals Bury

Oldham continued their resurgence under new boss Richie Wellens with a last-gasp 2-1 win against local rivals Bury in Sky Bet League One.

Substitute Aaron Holloway struck in the fourth minute of injury time as the Latics made it seven matches unbeaten in all competitions and took a big stride towards mid-table.

Oldham almost grabbed an early opener when Bury goalkeeper Leo Fasan made a superb fingertip save from Eoin Doyle.

But Wellens' side were not to be denied on 24 minutes as midfielders Jack Byrne and Dan Gardner produced a slick passing move and Doyle swept home clinically from 12 yards.

Fasan denied Craig Davies before Bury created their first chance, with Chris Humphrey testing home keeper Johnny Placide in first-half stoppage time.

The visitors levelled two minutes after the break when Jay O'Shea's cross found an unmarked Tom Aldred, whose 10-yard header flew in off the post.

Rohan Ince and Jermaine Beckford both went close for Bury, while at the other end Fasan saved well from Byrne and Davies.

The dramatic finale arrived when Placide launched a huge kick downfield and Holloway raced clear to blast inside the far post.
