Roberto Carlos has accused Roy Hodgson of almost ruining his career
Hodgson was in charge of Inter Milan during Carlos' one season there during 1995/96.
And Carlos has revealed that Hodgson's insistence on playing him out of position almost ruined his career and forced him to leave the club.
"Hodgson's stay at Inter destroyed me," he told PlanetFootball.
"He played me in midfield and I had to consider that there was a chance that this would ruin my career in the national side.
"It's not that I did not have a good relationship with Hodgson. It is just that Hodgson doesn't know much about football.
"When Inter lost in the Uefa Cup final against Schalke in '96, it was purely because of Hodgson.
"Fabio Capello (who signed Carlos for Real from Inter) was different - so different - and when I moved to Madrid I did it because of him.
"He is the most important coach I have had in my life."
Hodgson was in charge at San Siro for two years, before later returning as caretaker manager.
The 70-year-old has been a manager for more than 40 years and recently took over at Crystal Palace following Frank de Boer's sacking.
It's his first managerial job since resigning as England boss in the wake of a disappointing Euro 2016 and he faces a struggle to keep the Eagles up, who sit rock-bottom of the Premier League without a single goal or point.
Palace return to Premier League action next weekend as they host Chelsea at Selhurst Park.
