Toni Kroos is happy he joined Real Madrid over Manchester United
REAL MADRID star Toni Kroos has admitted he is happy he snubbed a move to Manchester United in 2014.
Manchester United were keen to sign Kroos three years ago when the midfielder was at Bayern Munich.
However, the Germany international decided to join Real instead, for a fee of just £20million.
In the time since, Kroos has helped Los Blancos win the Champions League twice - as well as a first La Liga trophy since 2012.
And, unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old has expressed his satisfaction with life at the Bernabeu and confidently claimed he was right to make the move to the Spanish capital.
"My change of team was correct, in fact, from my point of view there is no doubt about it," he said.
"Clearly, if you go abroad to a top club, it means one more step in your development.
"Carlo Ancelotti wanted me in Madrid, and had bet on me."
Kroos also credited Zinedine Zidane for helping to enhance his reputation as one of the best midfielders in world football.
"From the beginning, he gave me a lot of confidence, and in his two years [with Real Madrid] he's played me in almost every game, especially in the big games," the World Cup winner added.
"Trust me, I will always try to give everything for the team. We have a good relationship.
"A friendly relationship with the coach is important for each player."
Speaking in December, former United boss David Moyes claimed he had agreed a deal to sign Kroos prior to being replaced by Louis van Gaal.
"Toni Kroos was agreed to come in the summer," he said.
"I had agreed it with Toni himself and his agent."
