Late Clark goal clinches north west derby win for Accrington

Jordan Clark proved to be the match-winner for Accrington as they came out on top in a hard-fought 2-1 north west derby win against 10-man Morecambe.

Goals in either half from Billy Kee and Jordan Clark were enough to give John Coleman's side the points, despite Kevin Ellison pulling one back for the Shrimps after home striker Vadaine Oliver was shown a straight red card with 33 minutes remaining.

Accrington opened the scoring in the 31th minute when Billy Kee took the ball 30 yards from goal and tried his luck with a speculative shot which found the bottom-right corner of Barry Roche's goal.

The visitors had created and spurned several chances with Kee and Seamus Conneely firing wide while Morecambe failed to test Stanley substitute goalkeeper Aaron Chapman, who came on after just eight minutes following an injury to Max Stryjek.

The Shrimpers started the second half on the front foot but were undone by Oliver's sending off in the 57th minute and Stanley took advantage of their extra man.

Kayden Jackson went close on two occasions before the striker's teasing cross was tapped in from six yards out by Jordan Clark in the 90th minute.

Morecambe hit back in the fifth minute of stoppage-time when Ellison headed home Elliott Osborne's cross at the far post to set up a tense finale but Stanley held on.
