Ian Wright has told Arsene Wenger that it is time to leave Arsenal after the Gunners' disastrous start to the new season.

The north London side suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday as they crashed to their second defeat on the road to leave them down in 16th place in the Premier League table.

That loss followed the 1-0 defeat by Stoke the weekend before to heap pressure on manager Wenger after just three games of the new campaign.

Arsenal were widely criticised for their lacklustre display against Liverpool as they failed to gain any sort of foothold in the game.

Wenger signed a new two-year contract back in May after leading the Gunners to FA Cup glory, but after they missed out on Champions League qualification by finishing fifth.

Now, Arsenal legend Wright has urged Wenger to leave the club for his own "sanity" after the Gunners' disastrous start to the new campaign.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Wright said: "It's an absolute nightmare. Why can't we get the players to play for us? Wenger carries the can.

"It comes back to his door. We are three games in and are at crisis point.

"Do I think he should go? I'd like him to go because I do not believe now he can motivate the players.

"It's for himself and for his own sanity. It's an absolute nightmare - where does he go from here? That team has not played for Wenger for years."

Arsenal return to Premier League action after the international break when they host Bournemouth at The Emirates on Saturday 9 September.

The Gunners have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
