The Holland international took to Instagram just a day later to post a picture of him on a private jet with a 'thinking bubble' emoji.
Van Dijk is seen staring out of the window possibly reflecting on what the summer has in store for him.
The 25-year-old is not set to be short of options with Manchester City and Chelsea also interested.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will not want to give up on his number one transfer target so soon and it is thought that the defender prefers an Anfield switch so he can play under the German boss.
But in their grovelling apology to Southampton, a statement read that they would end 'any interest' in he highly-wanted star.
Saints are now expected to receive a influx of offers from Europe's biggest clubs which could also rise his price-tag to up to £75m.
Van Dijk moved to the south coast on an £11.5m deal from Celtic in 2015.
The 25-year-old signed a new six-year deal with Southampton just last year.
