Match of the Day's Phil Neville and Martin Keown didn't enjoy seeing the players greeting each other in the tunnel

Arsenal and Manchester United's players were slammed for being ‘too nice' to each other prior to their Premier League match on Sunday afternoon.

Arsene Wenger's side ran out 2-0 winners to give their Champions League hopes a boost, but it was their pre-match antics that drew the ire of Match of the Day pundits Phil Neville and Martin Keown.

After Petr Cech shook hands with his former manager Jose Mourinho and Nacho Monreal hugged a couple of his Spanish compatriots, Neville and Keown laid into the players, saying the modern day phenomenon wouldn't have stood a chance in their playing days.

Neville said: "This is a total nonsense. Look at Wayne Rooney here, old school, looking forward, not hugging, kissing.

"Monreal looks like he's going to a christening there rather than a football game. I can't imagine doing that to Martin Keown ten years ago in the tunnel at Highbury."

Keown added: "This is what modern day players are like. As long as they do the business on the pitch, [but] I hated it when the French players would do this with one another - English players certainly didn't."

Neville continued: "It doesn't matter if you know them, you're going to see them in the bar after the game. Just concentrate in the tunnel."
