There were jubilant scenes in the Newcastle dressing room on Monday night after the team confirmed their promotion back into the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow - who was dropped for the game - sprayed skipper Jamaal Lascelles with champagne.

Lascelles shared a picture of the whole team celebrating.

First try

Newcastle secured automatic promotion at the first time of asking.

Rafa's side required a win on Monday night but Preston were out to spoil the party.

Ayoze Perez gave the home side an early lead before Jordan Hugill equalised seven minutes later.

Preston dominated for the remainder of the half until Chrstian Atsu restored Newcastle's lead on the stroke of half time.

Second half goals from Matt Ritchie and another from Perez sealed the victory and confirmed Newcastle's place back in the big time.
