Birmingham vs Burton Albion FC - Striker crisis for Birmingham

Posted Saturday, April 15, 2017 by PA

Birmingham's under-fire manager Gianfranco Zola has a striker injury crisis on his hands for the vital Sky Bet Championship relegation battle against fellow strugglers Burton at St Andrew's.

Zola and his players were booed following the 1-1 draw at already-relegated Rotherham on Good Friday where striker Lukas Jutkiewicz suffered a hamstring injury after his manager had used all three substitutes.

Clayton Donaldson missed the Millers match with a knee injury suffered in training so that could mean a promotion to the starting line-up for Watford loanee Jerome Sinclair as Birmingham seek to extend their four-point gap over the bottom three.

Zola is already without central defender Michael Morrison who has suffered a complication following hernia surgery and may not feature again this season.

Burton will monitor the fitness of defender Kyle McFadzean ahead of the trip.

McFadzean missed Friday's 2-1 defeat to Ipswich with a sore hamstring and will be assessed.

John Mousinho replaced him against the Tractor Boys and would likely continue should McFadzean miss out again.

Lasse Vigen Christensen, Lucas Akins and Luke Varney all came on against Ipswich and are pushing to start, although the latter scored an own goal just over a minute after coming on.
