Grimsby Town vs Cambridge United - Russell Slade ready to begin second stint at Grimsby helm when Cambridge visit

Russell Slade will take charge of his first match in his second spell as manager of Grimsby for the visit of Cambridge on Good Friday.

Slade's appointment was announced on Tuesday, a day after the Mariners sacked Marcus Bignot.

The new boss will hope to have Ben Davies, Scott Vernon and Akwasi Asante available after injury.

Midfielder Davies (head) and strikers Vernon (head) and Asante have all missed the last two games but were close to fitness prior to last weekend's victory over Blackpool.

Cambridge midfielder Piero Mingoia is a doubt for the trip to Blundell Park.

Mingoia has missed the last three games with a groin problem and is unlikely to feature.

Scott Wharton (hamstring) and James Dunne (heel) are closing in on a return, but Barry Corr is still out with a groin injury.

Gerry McDonagh could be available after missing last weekend's impressive 3-0 win over Leyton Orient due to illness.
