I SAY NO: Roy Hodgson rejected being on Strictly Come Dancing
After getting the sack following the Three Lions' humiliating elimination from Euro 2016 by minnows Iceland TV chiefs bosses offered Roy the chance to win round his detractors by starring in the BBC's hit ballroom dancing reality show.
But the axed football boss turned it down – because he did not want to become a 'celebrity'.
SACKED: The former England boss was let go after the Euro 2016
"I’d have been another Ed Balls,” Roy, 69, told The Big Issue.
He went on: “I’ve never regarded myself as a celebrity.
"I have regarded myself as a professional football manager, a job which I have done for many years and think I do well.
"I’m quite proud of my achievements.
"But I don’t think that lifts me into the celebrity world.
"It has given me a life doing exactly what I wanted to do.
"But I don’t regard myself as any different to anybody else.”
CHANCE: He declined the chance to be on Strictly as he did not want to become a ‘celebrity’
Roy, who has recently bought a flat in Richmond, south-west London, with wife Sheila, said he wanted to 'walk down streets' and preferred to travel by train than 'chauffeur-driven car'.
"It’s not me, it’s not my background, it’s not where I came from,” he said.
"And it’s not what I could get used to.”
Roy, who speaks Swedish, French, German and Italian, said he hopes to return to football with a foreign coaching job.
