Dunfermline 0 - 1 Ayr Utd.: Rare away win for Ayr
Posted Sunday, March 19, 2017 by PA
Ross Docherty scored the only goal as relegation-battling Ayr secured a 1-0 victory at Dunfermline.
Docherty's second-half header earned United their first away league win since October.
The Pars made a breathless start to the game as Nicky Clark's volley struck a defender only for Kallum Higginbotham to fire over the rebound and moments later Michael Moffat's header hit a post.
Moffat went close again in the second half as his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Ayr goalkeeper Greg Fleming.
But against the run of play Docherty's 49th-minute header found a way past Sean Murdoch.
Dunfermline wasted a great chance to equalise in the 68th minute when Joe Cardle somehow fired wide from Ryan Williamson's cut-back, while Fleming later made a couple of good saves to keep Ayr a point above St Mirren at the bottom.
