The former Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has claimed his former club are monitoring Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Gunners last summer, is no stranger to Bayern as he has previously spent four seasons at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Xhaka made his international debut for Switzerland under Hitzfeld and his former boss has revealed Bayern's interest in the combative midfielder.
"Bayern certainly has Xhaka on the radar," he told SportBild.
"Xhaka is always a topic of conversation for current top clubs and his development is not yet completed."
How Xhaka compares to Bayern's central midfielders:
Xabi Alonso's departure means Bayern are likely to dip into the transfer market though they are not short in this department.
Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara both displayed their worth recently against Arsenal and have been predominantly utilised by Carlo Ancelotti as he seeks a fourth Champions League title as manager.
The duo, in the Bundesliga at least, are yet to make a defensive error the same goes for the highly thought of youngster Joshua Kimmich.
This can't be said for Xhaka, who averages 0.12 defensive errors per game, and has come in for heavy scrutiny regarding his ability to cleanly tackle.
Thiago and Kimmich offer a lot going forward whilst Xhaka has slightly done more than Vidal in their respective leagues.
