Falkirk closed the gap on Ladbrokes Scottish Championship leaders Hibernian to six points thanks to a brace from Nathan Austin in a 4-1 win at Ayr.
The Bairns took the lead in the eighth minute when Austin netted with his second attempt following great work in the build-up by Luke Leahy and John Baird.
Fraser Aird went close moments later but they had to wait until the 63rd minute to double their lead when Austin forced home his second of the afternoon.
Ayr reduced the deficit a minute later through Gary Harkins' close-range effort, but Falkirk added two late goals through Craig Sibbald and Aird to claim three valuable points in their pursuit of Hibs.
