Bradford AFC 1 - 0 Peterborough United: Bradford edge out Peterborough for overdue home win

Striker Alex Jones scored the winner as Bradford ended a run of four home games without a win with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Peterborough.

Jones, who joined Bradford from Birmingham in January, grabbed the all-important goal in the 24th minute, forcing the ball over the line after goalkeeper Luke McGee could only half stop Mark Marshall's angled shot from the right.

The ball then rebounded into the path of fellow striker Charlie Wyke who fired into the net from close range, but referee Brett Huxtable signalled a goal after being alerted by the assistant referee's flag that Jones' effort had crossed the line.

Earlier, Marshall had seen his shot rebound off the post after cutting in from the left in the ninth minute.

Peterborough's best chance came in the 47th minute when Craig Mackail-Smith charged down Nathaniel Knight-Percival's attempted clearance as keeper Colin Doyle lost his footing.

Mackail-Smith squared the ball across to Tom Nichols, who had a great chance to score with Doyle out of his goal, but fortunately for Bradford defender Rory McArdle managed to block his shot.

Tony McMahon, Josh Cullen and substitutes Timothee Dieng and Jordy Hiwula all went close as Bradford tried to increase their lead, but had to settle for a single-goal victory.
