Rochdale vs Port Vale - Problems mount for Rochdale ahead of Port Vale clash
Posted Tuesday, February 28, 2017 by PA
Rochdale are short of numbers heading into their game against relegation strugglers Port Vale.
Joe Rafferty (one game) and Donal McDermott (three games) are both suspended after receiving red cards against Peterborough.
Steven Davies and Matty Lund (both knee) remain out, Jack Redshaw has shin splints and Niall Canavan has also been ruled out for the second game in a row.
With Joel Taylor and Callum Camps also battling illness, manager Keith Hill could be forced to promote youth players into the matchday squad.
Port Vale will again be without defender Kjell Knops for the trip.
Knops completes a two-game ban and manager Michael Brown may once again choose to use Ben Purkiss in central defence, with Callum Guy as makeshift right-back.
Remie Streete (knee) and Anthony de Freitas (groin) are both out for a number of weeks, meaning Brown has to be creative at the back.
Sam Foley has admitted he is not yet at peak match fitness but looks likely to continue in the starting XI.
