Ten-man Scottish Championship strugglers Ayr scored twice at the death to draw 2-2 with hosts Dumbarton, who had looked set for victory after Sam Stanton's second-half brace.

Midway through the first half Dumbarton's Robert Thomson headed David Smith's cross against the post just before Ayr's Ross Docherty was sent off for a reckless tackle on Andy Stirling in the middle of the pitch. The Sons dominated the rest of the period but could not break through.

Dumbarton went ahead in the 62nd minute, Stanton surging forward and firing into the top corner. Seven minutes later he netted from inside a crowded penalty area.

But Ayr would score twice in stoppage time, with Michael Rose firing in a 25-yard free-kick before Craig Moore's penalty levelled it at the death.
