Milton Keynes Dons 1 - 0 Oldham Athletic AFC: John Sheridan left frustrated by additional time added on

Oldham manager John Sheridan was left wondering where the extra time came from after his side fell to a cruel 1-0 Sky Bet League One defeat at MK Dons thanks to Nicky Maynard's last-gasp volley.

Four minutes of stoppage time were indicated at the end of the second half in what was a dour encounter, but almost six had been played by the time Maynard crashed in his winner.

The Latics remain one point adrift of safety in the relegation zone as a result, but the Dons have now won four out of their last six league games.

Sheridan said: "People are telling me the referee's played a minute-and-a-half over what he should have and it's ridiculous if he has.

"I'll go and ask him and they'll [match officials] all be together, writing it down, saying the same thing and not give any answers - it's a waste of time going in, to be honest.

"It's a good goal from them, to be fair.

"I'm just gutted after that good, scrappy performance that we didn't go home and take a point.

"I don't think we played well, but I thought defensively we looked really solid - Connor [Ripley] again hasn't had much to do, make one save.

"At the same time I don't think we were a threat, really, we had a couple of half-chances but it was a dogged performance.

"I'd like us to be a lot better on the ball, but it was a real dogged performance against a good footballing side."

Oldham's best chance came just before half-time when Aaron Amadi-Holloway glanced Paul Green's cross just wide.

MK Dons snatched the points off their only shot on target, when George Williams' long ball was cleared into Maynard's path and he buried a volley in the bottom corner.

The Dons' manager Robbie Neilson said: "In these difficult games, when you get the half-chances you need to take them.

"We had a couple in the first half and we had a couple of others we thought we could get at.

"When you get that first goal earlier, the game has a totally different look about it, but credit to Oldham, they'll be devastated.

"They had a good game plan, they sat in and they made it really difficult for us to break them down and we didn't move the ball quick enough.

"I thought we moved it a little bit quicker in the second half, but even still we didn't really get to the level we want to get to.

"We've managed to get three points and at the end of the season, if we can possibly get in the play-offs, nobody's going to be worried about what happened on a Tuesday night against Oldham."
