Walsall vs Rochdale - Matt Preston to miss out again for Walsall

Posted Monday, January 02, 2017 by PA

Walsall could again be without centre-half Matt Preston for the visit of Rochdale.

Preston had to drop out of the goalless draw at Oxford through illness and faces a race against time to play.

Debut-making teenager Kory Roberts deputised on Saturday and Saddlers boss Jon Whitney revealed that the 19-year-old received a post-match round of applause in the dressing room.

Top scorer Erhun Oztumer is pushing for a recall after starting the last three games on the bench.

Keith Hill has promised to rest some Rochdale players in the Midlands.

Dale have won four on the spin but Hill claimed he could afford to rotate his team "because we know which way we need to play against Walsall".

Donal McDermott and Harrison McGahey will need checking on too having missed the past two games with illness.

Peter Vincenti (ankle) and Brian Barry-Murphy (Achilles) are still injured for Hill's fourth-placed outfit.
