Oxford United vs Walsall - Joe Skarz could return to Oxford team for Walsall game
Posted Thursday, December 29, 2016 by PA
Oxford could welcome back defender Joe Skarz to the starting line-up as the U's prepare to host Walsall at the Kassam Stadium.
Despite recovering from a back injury, Skarz was named among the substitutes in their 1-0 defeat against Northampton on Boxing Day. But with two games in the space of three days coming up, U's boss Michael Appleton may recall the 27-year-old.
Christian Ribeiro (ankle), Sam Long and Liam Sercombe (both knee) remain long-term absentees.
Oxford will be looking to return to winning ways after their run of five consecutive victories came to an end on Monday.
Walsall will hope Kevin Toner shakes off an illness after he missed the 1-0 win at Port Vale on Boxing Day.
The on-loan Aston Villa defender's deal at the Banks's Stadium expires next month and he has made 20 appearances for the Saddlers this season.
Midfielders Maz Kouhyar and Reece Flanagan are back in training after long-term knee problems.
Kouhyar has been out since October with Flanagan sidelined since April, although they both lack match fitness.
