Portugal and Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed 2016 was the best year of his career. Furthermore, the attacker also added that he’s silenced his critics by winning European trophies with both Los Blancos and Portugal.
Ronaldo, 31, is still seen as one of the best players in the game but some have questioned his impact in games in 2016, as he didn’t have the best of games against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final, while during Euros in France, the attacker scored just three goals.
However, the former Man United star has insisted that despite it not being his best year in terms of goals scored, 2016 was the most memorable year in his career.
Ronaldo said, as reported by Goal: “Collectively and individually, it was probably my best year so far.
"We won the Champions League with Real Madrid, we won a major title with Portugal’s national team for the first time, I won the Ballon d’Or, the Club World Cup. I cannot ask for more.
"The people who still doubt me, Real Madrid and the national team, they now have the proof. We won everything.
"So it has been an amazing year and I am very happy with it. I want to thank my team-mates from the national team and Real Madrid.”
Ronaldo has started the 2016/17 season in good form for Real Madrid, scoring ten goals in 11 La Liga games. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old has registered a shot accuracy of 47% this term.
The attacker’s next game sees him and Real Madrid face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey on January 4th.
