CAS reduce Los Blancos transfer ban
Real Madrid have had their two-window transfer ban reduced after the Court of Arbitration for Sport "partially accepted" their appeal against the FIFA sanction.

Los Blancos and neighbours Atletico Madrid were both punished by world football's governing body back in January for breaching regulations involving the signing of youth players.

The ban meant that the two La Liga clubs would not be able to register any new players for the January 2017 transfer window and during the following off-season.

Arch-rivals Barcelona were prevented from making any transfer dealings in 2015 for the same transgression, after seeing CAS reject their case, but Real have been more successful.

A statement from the European champions read: "The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has today informed Real Madrid C. F. of their decision by which they have partially upheld the appeal lodged by the club against the FIFA resolution which imposed a sanction forbidding the signing of players for two transfer windows, reducing said sanction to just one period, corresponding to the January 2017 transfer window.

"The decision highlights the injustice of the original ban imposed by FIFA, although the club regrets that the CAS lacked the courage to revoke the ruling entirely."

Zinedine Zidane is still prohibited from bolstering his squad next month, but the CAS ruling will allow the Spanish giants to conduct business as usual once the campaign has concluded.
