Match Summary

The Clarets had a shot at securing a rare victory at the Lane when Ashley Barnes fired them in front midway through the first half, but their lead lasted just six minutes as Dele Alli hit back with the equaliser.

Danny Rose completed the comeback in the second half when he lashed a high shot home inside the near post to give Mauricio Pochettino’s side the three points that took them back above Manchester United into fifth place.

Alli looked to open the scoring just 90 seconds into kick-off, but miscued his shot after he drifted inside from the left.

Hugo Lloris then had to be alert to prevent the visitors from scoring in the 11th minute as he pulled off a sharp reaction save to keep out Andre Gray from close range following Stephen Ward’s cross on the left.

Harry Winks threatened to break the deadlock just four minutes later when he received a pass from Kyle Walker and turned sharply inside the box to get off a shot that went straight to Tom Heaton.

But Sean Dyche’s men took the lead against the run of play in the 21st minute after the hosts had failed to clear their lines as Barnes stabbed the ball home from close range when George Boyd’s initial shot deflected into his path.

But they were pegged back only six minutes later as Walker was given too much space on the right to send in a low cross for Alli to steer into the bottom right corner from eight yards out.

The England youngster then curled an effort over from just inside the area as he and Walker combined again on the right, while Mousa Dembele dragged a right-footed shot wide of the left post from the edge of the box after being picked out by Walker on 36 minutes.

Heaton was forced to save Harry Kane’s strike from a narrow angle with his foot just before half-time after the striker had been played in on the right by Alli.

Christian Eriksen almost scored five minutes into the second half with a dipping shot from 25 yards out that landed on the roof on the net, before the Danish star tested Heaton with a header from Rose’s cross and a low effort from range that was also stopped by the keeper.

Spurs continued to apply the pressure as Alli let fly from ouside the area in the 69th minute, but Heaton made a comfortable save. However, he was beaten just a minute later when Rose and Moussa Sissoko linked up well on the left flank, which resulted in the defender slotting home at the near post from eight yards out.

A mistake from Lloris nearly let the Clarets back in on 74 minutes after he failed to clear a long ball into the area, but Scott Arfield wasn’t able to catch him out with a lob that landed on the roof of the goal.

Son Heung-Min opted to go for glory two minutes later as the north Londoners broke upfield, but he sent a shot wide of the right post from inside the box on the left following a good cross-field pass from Sissoko to pick him out.

The Lancashire club launched a few long balls into the opposition third in a desperate attempt to get a result, but Spurs held on to move back into the European places.
