Mesut Ozil will wait until the middle of January before making a decision on a contract extension

MESUT OZIL will keep Arsenal waiting until the middle of January to find out if he is going to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

The German playmaker has been locked in talks for much of this year about extending his deal which still has 18 months to run.

Mesut Ozil is demanding a massive rise in the £140,000 that he currently earns with The Gunners reluctant to match his £250,000-a-week demands.

He is known to be happy in London and Arsenal are confident that they will be able to reach an agreement when they meet again in the New Year.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is known to want an end to the saga which has started to dominate the build up to every game the Gunners play.

Ozil has been touted for a return to Real Madrid when their two transfer window ban ends at the same time as his contract.

Wenger has said that he is prepared to allow Ozil to walk away from the club for nothing but along with the Gunners hierarchy wants him to pen a new contract.

The Gunners could help persuade him to stay by winning the race to sign his 2014 World Cup winning team mate Julian Draxler.

Draxler is set to leave cash strapped German outfit Wolfsburg next month and The Gunners are facing competition from PSG to sign him.

The French giants have enquired about the £30 million star while Juventus who are flush with cash from the summer sale of Paul Pogba are also keen.
