Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho remarked that his players were “unstoppable” in the closing stages as they prevailed past Crystal Palace with a 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park tonight.
United took the lead through a goal from Paul Pogba but Palace clawed their way back into the game as James McArthur finished well following impressive build-up play from Damien Delaney.

However, it was United who eventually prevailed as Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck late to extend his side’s unbeaten run across all competitions to nine games.
Mourinho told Match of the Day: “It was very difficult but very deserved. In the first half we were in control. In the second half they had a little reaction and got the bonus of the goal and then we went into our best period of the game.
“For 20 minutes we were almost unstoppable. Their goalkeeper made a magnificent save from Rooney’s shot, we had Mata’s goal, a penalty (appeal) and our goal. It was an amazing reaction and I am really pleased for the players.”
United have struggled for consistency in Mourinho’s first season in charge but they showed terrific resilience to bounce back against a determined Palace side tonight.
Mourinho’s side remain in sixth place in the table, 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea, but, with this victory following on from last weekend’s success against Tottenham Hotspur, the Red Devils are now finally establishing some much-needed momentum.
United will hope to register another victory when they face West Bromwich Albion away on Saturday in their next fixture.
Palace, meanwhile, will be concerned about preserving their Premier League status and are currently languishing in 16th place in the table.
