Fleetwood Town 3 - 2 Shrewsbury Town: Devante Cole at the double as Fleetwood hit back for victory

Devante Cole scored twice as Fleetwood battled back to secure a last-minute victory - coming from behind to beat 10-man Shrewsbury 3-2.

Neither side looked keen to make a third round trip to Bristol City, with the early exchanges delivering little in terms of quality or chances.

Shrewsbury might have inched ahead when former Fleetwood man Junior Brown picked the pocket of Conor McLaughlin, but Ivan Toney's attempt at a finish did not trouble Alex Cairns in the Cod Army goal.

Toney had an even better chance when Fleetwood's back-line was caught napping but Kian Bolger raced back and got a foot to the ball as the Salop striker prepared to pull the trigger.

Brown was involved again when Shrewsbury snatched the lead minutes before the break.

Both Jim O'Brien and Louis Dodds looked to be offside when he pumped the ball forward but the flag stayed down and O'Brien slotted low under Cairns.

Shortly after the restart Fleetwood were handed a way back into the tie when Adam El-Abd casually hauled down sub Aaron Amadi-Holloway just outside the box and was shown a straight red card.

But they were unable to make their numerical advantage count, falling further behind on the hour.

O'Brien picked out the run of Dodds to his right and the striker smashed a shot low across Cairns and into the far corner.

Fleetwood fought back three minutes later, Cole rising at the back post to head home from Jack Sowerby's cross.

And it was soon all square, Cole again pouncing at the far post to turn home Chris Long's clever flick after a flighted free-kick from inside Fleetwood territory.

And with seconds remaining Ash Hunter sealed victory for Fleetwood, smashing home from close range after a surging run down the right by Long.
