Feyenoord stretched their lead at the top of the Eredivisie standings after title rivals Ajax slipped up at Twente on Sunday.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst's Feyenoord went three points clear at the lead summit after they cruised to a 4-0 win over AZ at the AFAS Stadion.
De Stadionclub were totally in control at half-time following three first-half goals from Steven Berghuis (11'), Jan-Arie van der Heijden (19') and Nicolai Jorgensen (45').
Tonny Vilhena (69') wrapped up the victory in the second half as Van Bronckhorst's side extended their unbeaten run to four outings, while the fifth-placed Cheeseheads lost for the first time in six matches.
Meanwhile, Ajax saw their impressive 12-game undefeated streak come to an end with a 1-0 reverse to Twente at De Grolsch Veste.
It was a very late goal that won it for the Tukkers as Mateusz Klich scored from the penalty spot in stoppage time to give them a first win in six encounters.
Peter Bosz's team remain in second position, three points clear of defending champions PSV, as Twente finished the weekend in the final European spot (seventh).
Elsewhere, Vitesse kept their European hopes alive with a 1-0 success Sparta Rotterdam at Het Kasteel.
An 83rd-minute goal from Ricky van Wolfswinkel settled matters in Rotterdam as Vitas closed within a point of the top seven, while De Kasteelheren dropped to 12th after seeing their winless run stretch to four games.
Utrecht moved up to sixth spot courtesy of their 2-0 win over Heracles at Stadion Galgenwaard, where a Mike te Wierik own-goal (32') and Sebastien Haller's penalty (85') secured the three points.
