Romain Hamouma scored the only goal as St Etienne followed up their midweek Europa League success with a 1-0 home win against Guingamp.

St Etienne qualified for the last 32 knockout phase in the Europa League with a 3-2 win at Anderlecht to finish top of Group C on Thursday night and Hamouma's solitary strike clinched them victory in Ligue 1.

Hamouma and Guingamp striker Jimmy Briand had both gone close to making an early breakthrough when the former collected Kevin Malcuit's pass into the penalty area in the 25th minute and rifled the ball into the bottom corner.

Jordan Veretout's shot struck the post for St Etienne before the break and soon after Guingamp forward Moustapha Diallo's header hit the crossbar.

Nill de Pauw went close for the visitors and Yannis Salibur twice forced fine saves from St Etienne keeper Stephane Ruffier in the closing stages, but the home side held on.
