Llorente at the double as Swans down Sunderland

Swansea recorded a massive win as they defeated Sunderland 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gylfi Sigurdsson broke the deadlock with a 51st-minute penalty, before Fernando Llorente added a second just three minutes later.

And the Spanish striker made sure of all three points when he netted his second of the match with 10 minutes remaining.

Sunderland started the brighter of the two sides with Sebastian Larsson sending a few dangerous balls into the Swansea area before Lamine Kone had an early shot blocked.

Papy Djilobodji was forced to clear in front of his own net moments later though after a good Neil Taylor ball into the box.

Alfie Mawson then cut out a Patrick van Aanholt pulled pass with Jermain Defoe lurking before Jordon Pickford gratefully caught an on-target Llorente header.

Llorente should have done better with a good cross from Wayne Routledge from the right as Defoe fired just over after Anichebe had picked the striker out with a superb throughball.

Defoe did his defensive duties at the other end as he stole the ball off the boot of Larsson just as he was about to shoot.

Mawson then headed over a Sigurdsson cross as Swansea started to assert themselves more and more in this game.

Pickford denied Modou Barrow at his back post on 34 minutes as he latched onto a Llorente knockdown as Jordi Amat wasted a chance to put the Swans in the lead as he headed another good Sigurdsson ball over the crossbar.

While the last piece of action of the first half saw Barrow firing just wide after beating Billy Jones on the left flank.

Taylor fired over at the start of the second half after a dangerous Jay Fulton cross that Kone did well to clear.

Lukasz Fabianski was relieved to gather a Larsson cross after Defoe failed to get any real power on a volley before smashing an even better chance wide of the Swansea goal.

And those misses proved costly as Sigurdsson gave his side the lead on 50 minutes from the penalty spot after Jason Denayer was ruled to have handled inside the area.

Pickford turned a Barrow shot just past his post as Swansea looked for a second goal, that duly arrived just three minutes later as Llorente found the bottom corner of the net after latching onto a low Sigurdsson cross.

Llorente really should have scored again, on 59 minutes, but missed his kick after a good touch from Barrow following another good Sigurdsson delivery into the box.

And while Pickford denied Amat on the hour mark, he was unable to deny Llorente in the 80th minute.

Jefferson Montero, on for Barrow minutes earlier, picked out the tall striker in the box who finished calmly in front of the poles.

Defoe had a couple of good chances to pull a goal back, not least in the 81st minute, with a shot that was deflected just wide, before Djilobodji headed a Januzaj cross onto the crossbar via the fingertips of Fabianski.

Try as they might, Sunderland just could not find a way though, with Fabianski denying Denayer in the dying minutes to stop his curling effort ending up into the bottom corner of his net.
