St Etienne and Marseille shared a goalless draw in their Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

The visitors had the first opportunity on four minutes after Remy Cabella played Maxime Lopez through but his shot was well saved by Stephane Ruffier before Henri Saivet missed for the hosts, dragging his effort wide.

Bafetimbi Gomis should have done better for Marseille before Saivet spurned another chance to go into the break all square.

Oussama Tannane stung the hands of Yohann Pele for St Etienne after the restart while William Vainqueur brought another good save from Ruffier at the other end.

Rolando, Romain Alessandrini and Clinton N'Jie all threatened late on but neither side were able to hit the back of the net.
