Scunthorpe United vs Oxford United - Scunthorpe's Stephen Dawson in fitness fight

Posted Friday, November 25, 2016 by PA

Scunthorpe captain Stephen Dawson is facing a race to be fit for Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash with Oxford.

The midfielder was forced off after 53 minutes of Tuesday's victory over Peterborough after turning his ankle.

The injury is not as bad as first feared but may well keep him out this weekend, with Richard Smallwood poised to deputise.

Paddy Madden (hamstring) was an unused substitute against Posh and will hope to force his way back into the side while Harry Toffolo is also fit after six weeks on the sidelines.

Oxford need to check on Chey Dunkley and Joe Skarz.

Dunkley limped out of Tuesday's 1-0 win against Gillingham with a hamstring injury and is rated 50-50.

Skarz missed the midweek game after sustaining concussion following a clash of heads during Saturday's 4-1 win over Coventry.

Striker Wes Thomas will miss the rest of the season after rupturing an Achilles tendon.
