Dortmund want Mkhitaryan back: Man United flop eyed for January loan with contact incoming
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has made just four Premier League appearances for Manchester United

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN is reportedly wanted back at Borussia Dortmund following his disastrous start to life at Manchester United.

The 27-year-old has flopped at Old Trafford since his £26.3m switch in the summer.

Jose Mourinho has been unimpressed with the attacking midfielder who has subsequently been handed very little game time.

Injury and fitness concerns at the beginning of his Manchester United career delayed progress, but he has since struggled even when declared fully fit.

Mkhitaryan's future is under question in the Premier League, and according to the Sunday People, Dortmund are eyeing a sensational return on loan.

A January move for the Armenia international is being targeted with manager Thomas Tuchel having apparently told Dortmund chiefs he would be happy to take Mkhitaryan back.

However, the Bundesliga club must first strike a deal with United.

And it is claimed Dortmund are set to contact the Red Devils ahead of the transfer window to determine Mourinho's openness to reaching an agreement.

Heading back to Germany where he made a name for himself could help Henrikh Mkhitaryan rediscover his confidence and form.

The proposed switch back would be similar to that of Shinji Kagawa who rejoined Dortmund in 2014 from United after failing to a cement a place in the team.

Mkhitaryan's lack of impact in Manchester is said to have left Dortmund boss Tuchel, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke and general manager MNichael Zorc astounded, as they still view the playmaker as a top-class talent.

While a return is eyed though, the player outlined earlier this week he is keen to fight for a future at Old Trafford.

On international duty, Mkhitaryan said: "It is true that I get little time on the field, but I am not going to give in.

"I went a long way to play in Manchester United, so nothing will prevent me from achieving my dream.

"I will not retreat, I will find the strength to reach my goal."
