Napoli vs Lazio - Simone Inzaghi ponders tinkering with formation

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi revealed he has been working on a formation change to deal with the threat of Napoli.

Inzaghi did not confirm if he would use a three-man defence when his fourth-placed side visit the team directly beneath them at Stadio San Paolo, but admitted he had been running through his options on the training field.

The two matches between the teams last season ended with a 7-0 aggregate in Napoli's favour, including a 5-0 scoreline in Naples, and Inzaghi is focused on shutting down the likes of Jose Callaejon, Lorenzo Isigne and Manolo Gabbiadini this time.

"We have analysed the matches last year in which the Napoli deserved to win," said Inzaghi.

"In the last two sessions we tried the defensive three again and it could be used during the game. We must be ready for anything.

"After final training I will evaluate. We know our form and we will do another workout to finally decide which system to use.

"We have great respect for Napoli, they have lost (Gonzalo) Higuain but they have brought in youth and quality.

"Napoli are dangerous and should be limited but you cannot give up the game."

Unlike Lazio, Napoli were in Champions League action in midweek and secured a 1-1 draw at Besiktas.

That means they have had fewer days to focus on Serie A matters but midfielder Dries Mertens insists there has been no loss of focus.

"We will give everything on the pitch to gain a good result," Mertens told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"The draw on Tuesday in the Champions League was important, now, however, our mind is on the challenge of tomorrow.

"Lazio is a strong team that is playing well, but they will find it tough because we want to gain success at the San Paolo. Our fans certainly will give us a big boost.

"Lazio are a very strong team so we must be ready, alert and focused."
